A call for transformation – EVLN in response to workplace incivility

The study examined how employees respond to workplace incivility through qualitative interviews with 42 workers at a beverage manufacturing company in Israel. Researchers identified four reaction categories — Exit, Voice, Loyalty, and Neglect — aligned with the EVLN model for stress responses. The analysis revealed that reactions involve a dynamic reaction process with intentionality as an additional dimension. Emotional processes rooted in appraisals and aroused emotions underlie each reaction type. The authors conclude organizations should examine targets' emotions and the dynamic and highly individual reaction processes involved to reduce incivility events.
